Former Pakistan pacer Sohail Tanvir has been named head of the junior selection committee, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced today.
As per PCB, Sohail’s first assignment as head of the junior selection committee will be the selection of the Pakistan U19 squad for the 2023 ACC U19 Asia Cup scheduled to be held between 8 and 17 December in UAE.
Pakistan U19 will later take part in the ICC U19 World Cup from 13 January to 4 February in Sri Lanka.
Sohail, who took 130 wickets across formats for Pakistan, is honoured and grateful for the opportunity provided by Chairman PCB Management Committee Zaka Ashraf.
"Being appointed chairman of this committee is a huge responsibility and I am looking forward to this exciting challenge," he said.
“I believe in the potential of our young talent and we collaboratively aim to build a pathway for success from the grassroots to the international level. Our first task will be the selection of the U19 squad for the upcoming ACC U19 Asia Cup, as we prepare to build a strong team to compete in the ICC U19 World Cup later next year.”
Remember, former pacer Wahab Riaz is the new chief selector of the Pakistan cricket team. He was announced by the PCB earlier today.
Riaz, who represented Pakistan in 154 international matches, recently announced retirement from international cricket and has now been given the responsibility of selecting the team for Australia's Test tour.
It must be noted that the PCB has been heavily active for the past few days and many changes have been made in Pakistan men's cricket team set-up.
Babar Azam opted to resign from captaincy across formats. PCB, on November 15, confirmed the appointment of Shan Masood as the Test captain while Shaheen Shah Afridi has been named T20I captain.
On the other hand, Mohammad Hafeez was named Team Director as well as head coach.
